[There isn't that much that changes when the Masons adopt two girls instead of a girl and a boy. Shaun is still Shaun, though she's not named after the brother she'll never know and always be compared to (in an uncharacteristic bout of emotional honesty, Stacey had said that she couldn't parent another Phillip). Instead, she's Shaun Barbara, and she and her sister Georgia get a lot more of the 'twin treatment' than they would have as a boy-girl set. They spend much of their young childhood dressed alike in a lot of traditionally pretty 'little girl' clothing, and spend a lot of that time looking like a matched set for the camera.
That ends the fall after they turn six, and Shaun uses the safety scissors in their first grade classroom to give George the short haircut she'd been demanding from their parents since their birthday. It looks terrible until their mother takes her out to have it cleaned up, but they don't match anymore after that, and--to their credit--the Masons stop trying to make them.
Shaun still becomes an Irwin. Georgia still becomes a Newsie. They are allowed to share a room into adulthood and turn the other room into a full time office. There are fewer raised eyebrows when they choose to share a room when traveling.
They still get the Ryman campaign. It still ends badly.
Aaaaand IDK when/where you want to go with this, but I have us started!]
It's only been... several months.
