Barbara--and Oracle--had been watching the young man for a while. Maybe longer and with more attention that she did for anyone else outside of the 'family.,' but she couldn't help being curious after the first time she's seen him. Ninety-eight pounds soaking wet, and still facing down people that basically anyone not wearing a ton of body armor tended to give a wide berth.
This was so wrong. So very, very wrong. Jesse knew the moment she hit the ground that Wonderland had screwed something up. This wasn’t home. For one, it looked wrong; colder, blue-shifted, instead of the familiar warm sepia-tone of her Earth. For two, Shaun was there, sprawled in the dirt the same as she was.
For three... it sure as hell looked like there were manors in the distance. Dirt roads. No sign of the modern technology that she knew all too well. “Please tell me this is your Earth.” It was a stupid question that she already knew the answer to, but she asked anyway. In the hopes that maybe she was wrong.
[Thompson is curled up in Georgia's jacket and asleep, hanging off the front of her shirt. She's jealous. Neither of them are built for daylight, but unlike her daemon, Georgia can't sleep right now. She doesn't resent him for it. She knows if she needs him, he'll be awake in an instant. But sometimes she's still kind of jealous.
She and Shaun are out of the house, which isn't unusual for them. They don't particularly like being home on a good day, but ever since their daemons settled, things have been tenser than ever around their parents. Yes, daemons can't catch Kellis Amberlee, but Shaun's golden retriever still makes them uncomfortable. She can't really blame them, except for how she does.
And while they're out, they might as well work. Shaun's daemon has pushed up their timeline. They can't stay as long as they might otherwise because they can't trust the Masons not to do something stupid. Shaun's articles are the ones that make money. So she's out helping him film for the umpteenth time. The article she'll get out of this will only appeal to the most hardened newsies, but it's still worth it. Once they're independent, she can write about whatever she wants.
Which leads them to where they are now: their story beginning where so many have ended. An idiot, her brother Shaun, poking a zombie with a stick while Georgia sits on her bike and films from a safe distance away.]
